御影堂の正面に横に広がる大木があります。これはイチョウの木ですが、本来、空に向かって伸びるところ、枝が横に伸びていることから「逆さイチョウ」と呼ばれ親しまれてきました。 樹齢は約400年といわれており、京都市の天然記念物に指定されています。 この木は天明の大火という大火災の際に、水を噴いて火を食い止め、御影堂・阿弥陀堂の両堂を守ったという伝説があり、そのことから「水噴きイチョウ」とも呼ばれています。

8 大銀杏樹 在御影堂前面有一棵橫向生長的大樹，叫做"銀杏樹"。通常銀杏樹的枝幹都是呈參天直上的長勢，而它卻如此的與眾不同。因其枝幹的長勢是呈橫向延伸，看上去就像樹根長到了外面一樣，因此又被叫作"倒轉銀杏"。據說這棵銀杏樹有著400年的樹齡，被稱為京都市的"天然紀念植物"。 傳說1788年的"天明大火"燒到本願寺時，這棵銀杏樹曾噴水擋住了撲面而來的大火，從而保住了御影堂和阿彌陀堂，於是人們又把它叫做"噴水銀杏"。

8 Big Gingko TreeStanding before the Goeido, is an unusually-shaped ancient gingko tree with a trunk of great width. Unlike most trees where its branches grow upward such as the one in front of the Amidado, this tree's branches have grown outward from its sides appearing as though it is growing upside-down, and therefore has come to be known as an "upside-down gingko." Estimated to be more than 400 years old, this tree has been designated as a Natural Monument by the city of Kyoto in 1985. Legend also has it that the tree emits a spray of moisture, thereby attempting to protect the temple halls during great fires. Because of this, it is also known as the water-spraying gingko tree.

8 Ô-ItchôUma árvore grande no pátio é da família Ginco. Normalmente elas se desenvolvem verticalmente, porém esta se desenvolveu lateralmente. Ela tem cerca de quatrocentos anos de idade. É considerada como Patrimônio Natural da cidade de Quioto. No grande incêndio de Ten-mei no ano de mil setecentos e oitenta e oito, ela protegeu os dois pavilhões.
