9.浪之間(Chamber of Waves)

この部屋は浪之間といい、襖から壁、腰障子、さらには天井にいたるまで激しくうずまく波の絵が描かれています。江戸時代後期の文化8年、1812年の親鸞聖人五百五十回大遠忌を機に本願寺の諸建物の大修理が行われた際に、吉村孝敬（よしむら・こうけい）により描かれたものと考えられており、玄界灘の波を描いたといわれています。また、襖の上の欄間には「葡萄と栗鼠（りす）」が彫刻されています。

9 Chamber of WavesSaid to be one of the oldest chambers in the Shoin, this chamber was last restored in 1812, as part of the Hongwanji building restoration projects in observance of the 550th Memorial for Shinran Shonin. The images of powerful swirling waves, said to be the artwork of YOSHIMURA Koukei, dynamically fill the chamber walls and ceiling. The wooden ramma carving found above the sliding panels accentuates the room's atmosphere with its combination of grape vines and squirrel design that were often seen with historic artifacts that were said to have been imported through the Silk Road.
