この部屋は、書院の西側にあることから「西狭屋之間（にしさやのま）」といいます。 狭屋の間は、幅が狭く細長い空間であるため、通路や廊下のように見えますが、畳が敷かれていることから部屋であるとみなされます。 天井画は草花をかいた「花卉図」で、壁貼付絵は、団扇型に描かれた枠のなかに中国風の人物や動物などが水墨画風に描かれており、書院の他の絵とは少し趣の異なったものとなっています。 また部屋を仕切る板戸にも極彩色の絵が描かれています。南側に「猿猴図」「花車図」、北側には「蘇鉄ニ麝香猫図」「檜ニ馬図」が描かれています。 作者は渡辺了慶とその一派の手になるものと考えられています。

15 West Corridor Being located in the west wing of the Shoin Chambers, this area is known as the West Corridor. Although its structure is that of a typical hallway, the corridor is considered a room due to the tatami mats being laid on the floor. On the ceiling are wild flowers and along the walls are ink paintings of people and animals drawn in traditional Chinese-style artwork, different from other paintings in the Shoin. Separating the West Corridor from the other chambers are cedar panels with a different painting on each side. To the south of the corridor is a panel with a painting of monkeys playfully climbing a tree and on the reverse side is a flower cart with peonies, wisteria, cherry and other blossoms in baskets typical of early Edo period decorative art. On the north side of the corridor, are paintings of stylized civets and sago palms on one side, and a Japanese cypress tree and horse on the other. These paintings are also believed to be the works of KANO Ryokei and other painters of the Kano school.
