この能舞台は、書院の北側に位置するところから「北能舞台」と呼ばれています。屋根の破風に取り付けられてある懸魚（げぎょ）裏の張り紙に天正9年、1581年の年代が書かれており、本願寺の坊官である下間家に徳川家康から贈られたものと伝承されていて、現存最古の能舞台です。 橋懸りの手すりが、まるみをおびており、遠近感を出すとともに、敷石には鴨川の滑石（なめりいし）を使い、舞台に向かって敷きつめることによって装飾をかねた音響効果をねらう工夫であると伝えられています。

17 北能舞台 這座能劇舞台因位於書院北側，因此被稱為"北能舞台"。據房頂的懸魚記載北能舞台建於1581年，後由德川家康贈予當時的本願寺官員下間氏，從而得以保存至今。北能舞台是日本現存的最古老的能劇舞台。 通向舞台的扶手設計成帶有弧度的目的是為了突出舞台忽遠忽近的感覺。鋪在舞台正面的，來自於京都鴨川的鵝卵石是為了起到裝飾和加強音響的作用。

17 기타 노부타이 이 노부타이는 서원의 북측에 위치한다하여 '기타 노부타이'라고 불리고 있습니다. 지붕의 박공부분에 붙인 현어의 뒤쪽 종이에 1581년이라고 연대가 적혀 있어 혼간지의 방관이었던 시모쓰마 가문에 도쿠가와 이에야스가 하사한 것이라고 전해지고 있습니다. 현존하는 가장 오래된 노부타이입니다. 통로의 손잡이가 둥글게 되어 있어 원근감을 나타냄과 동시에 포석에는 가모가와 강의 활석을 사용하여 무대 방향을 향해 깔아감으로 장식효과와 더불어 음향효과를 주는 것에 주력했다고 전해집니다.

17 North Noh Stage Based on a placard found within the roof of the stage, the North Noh stage is said to have been built in 1581, making it the oldest surviving Noh stage. Although this stage is no longer used due to its age, this national treasure, standing in the courtyard facing the White Wood Chambers was where guests would have once been entertained. Legend has it that the stage was donated by TOKUGAWA Iyeyasu to the Shimotsuma family, who had been the caretaker of Hongwanji at the time. The railing on the walkway was intentionally rounded to create an effect making it appear longer. Smooth from the flowing waters of Kyoto's Kamo River, the stones in the garden are laid vertically to the stage adding to its presentation as well as arranged to create a natural sound effect feature.

17 Kita-Nô-Butai (Palco norte do Teatro Nô) O palco norte é o mais antigo palco de Nô existente no Japão, e foi construído em mil quinhentos e oitenta e um e posteriormente foi doado ao Hongwanji. Este Tesouro Nacional se situa no pátio ao norte do Shiro Shoin. O corrimão meio curvado no caminho elevado de acesso ao palco dá uma sensação de profundidade. As pedras foram retiradas do Rio Kamogawa da cidade para dar um melhor efeito sonoro.
